Probably a REAL SMART move. 12 inch short barreled carbines are very uncommon. Within the first 288,000 1892’s that were produced there were only 57 of them! Beyond that I have only seen 2 in the 690000 range (1912) in the past 14 years! The fact that it had a 9 inch forend grip is most certainly a give away that it is not original.
