The condition actually isn’t that good. Look at the patina on the takedown component of the receiver and the bolt. I’ve got two in .25-20 that are far nicer, but I’m not confident they would bring much more than 15% the hammer price of this one. Plus, one of mine is antique, of which this is not.
I agree Burt. Extremely hard to find, in a Deluxe configuration, (according to us collectors), like this one. Steve makes a good point also, as the 25-20 was hard to try to sell or even give away at one point years ago. BRP, also makes a good point with the,”Honking Dent”, in the butt stock.
I was seriously considering going after this rifle as the hammer price was a little hard to digest, as I was shocked to see it also! I had a chance at an OGCA show some years ago as there were two in the show at the time on tables, and a fellow WACA member put me on to both of them, and I passed on both at some where around, $7,500.00 probably about 15 yrs ago or so! Can’t remember the caliber or anything else about them, but Oh Well, that’s how it goes.
