I am currently down in Australia for a shooting and fishing trip. I am an Ex pat Aussie who lives in Phoenix. I have a model 94 in 44-40. Serial number 427XXXX. This is not a commemorative just a regular 94. Is this rather unique? My other question is that this gun is off the grid down here and I want to bring it back to Arizona with all my other Winchesters. Is there someone in our community here that has imported rifles from Australia. I will probably need to do some work at this end to get the rifle legally in the hands with the Aussie equiv of a FFL dealer and have them "sell" it to me over here. They would then send it to an FFL at the US end to take delivery for me.
I do have a C & R, could I receive the rifle myself in Arizona from the Aussie dealer??
Any body out that that is an FFL dealer that is experienced with importing guns from The Peoples Socialist Republic of Australia
I really need to get this rifle back. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Yeh I’m with you. I am up at Goondiwindi right now. I wanted to get this thing back over to Phoenix because it was the first rifle I bought many years ago. Its not even in that great of shape as I used to shoot black powder loaded cartridges through it. I mean I cleaned it religiously and thoroughly after every use, but it just has sentimental value. The other thing and I still don’t have an answer on this yet is that it is a Model 94 in 44-40. I read somewhere that they made a batch for the Canadian market or something. This could be nonsense of course. So if this is a rarity all the more reason I want it over in Arizona. They told me a the QLD firearm exchange in Brisbane it would cost 5 to 600 dollars from this end and I would need an importer at the US end. Just not worth the drama plus I would have to get it in the system here first by having a mate register it under his name…what a load of BS!!!! Any way thanks for your reply… having a ball just the same getting amongst the feral pigs.
Seems hardly worth the expense. Cost more than it’s value.
I believe a batch of 44-40’s were made in the mid 1970’s. I have two of them – a carbine and a trapper made about ’75 or ’76.
Read somewhere that quite a few were imported into the Northern Territory for use by stockmen as protection against scrub bulls and buffalos.
Yes you are correct, just not worth the expense and hassle. I will sell it to one of the young blokes out here and have them register it if they want. I can be old Uncle Joe who has gone senile and this can be his gun they found hiding in the attic wrapped up in a hessian bag. I bet those people at the firearms register have prizes or run a book on who can come up with the best BS story of where people are claiming they acquire the guns they want to have registered. That very interesting about those territory guns. I bet this is one of them. The serial puts it right there at 1975. Thanks for that info. Appreciate the reply.
