Was Rube Goldberg a German?  Don’t see anything “Mauser” about it.  The rcvr sight seems to be inspired by the Lyman 21 & the aperture itself is a Lyman.  Has something important that the Model 54 & 52 lacked: a bolt release.

A bolt gun with a hammer? Looks like a questionable design very well executed.

Not the first:  the Remington-Keene was also a bolt-action with a hammer.

That’s a Mail Order barrel and it appears to be the only original Winchester part on the gun.

Looking a little closer, it may also be a grafted/modified M54 First Standard Rifle forend used on the gun.

Also resembles early M52 fore-end, but whatever the source, it’s a bizarre combination of relatively new parts fitted to a rcvr that looks much older.  Rcvr looks like a casting, which is not something even most master machinists would have the know-how to make.
