can any one tell me how many 1873"s were sold with the 36 " barrel?
and if the magazine tube is suposed be as long as the barrel ?
1/2 inch has been cut off the barrel grandpaw said it was not shooting straight.
im the forth genaration owner of this gun.
im tring to figure out how to post a pic.
Out of 2889 rifles in a survey done by Jim Gordon only 8 had 36" barrels. Most of them would of had a full mag but a check of the records would be in order to check the guns configuration for a rare gun like that.

These are being posted for zxman of his long barreled 1873. The gentleman in the photo is zxman’s grandfather taken in Pecos, Texas about 1920. The rifle was his fathers.

A mag tube is the easy part, its the shortened barrel that is the tough one. You either have to make a new one or stretch the original barrel. Just depends on the amount of original finish

I think long tube 1873’s are about the coolest thing ever made. I’m the proud care-taker of my great grandpas 30" 44-40.
Agreed. They have an esthetic balance that says what they do: shoot bullets. Many weapons just don’t have that. I bought a used 30" 1873 .45 Colt Uberti because of that. It may be a $700.00 wall hanger but I can abuse it if I want to. I just wish I could afford a slew of the real ones.
About four or five years ago there were several from different owners that ended up on an internet gun auction site and they were all the kind I like: very dark wood and very dark metal. The prices were reasonable, a little over 2k but I let them pass. Then, a few months later they showed up again with much higher prices, over 3k and they all sold again. I snooze, I lose.
