Welcome from me as well.
I echo Bert's suggestion. For me, the most amazing benefit is digital access to all past WACA collector magazines. The wealth and range of information in there cannot be described. Open any issue and you will find it impossible to not find at least find one article of interest. There is much information not available anywhere else.

At thirteen years old 64 years ago Dad bought us both Model 70’s mine was a standard weight 270 and his the light weight 308. Both are still in the family. Mine to my grandson and his to my son. The two guns probably have shot over 60 whitetail here in northern Mn.

In the later years I have been buying old brown cartridge rifles of all sorts. Recently more old lever guns in Winchester, they have been on the higher price from Marlin etc. so it has taken me longer to get into them, although I bought a few ‘94’s to actually hunt with, they were post ‘64’.

Anyway glad to be here and have a lot of questions to come.

Thank you for this site.

Burt,
I never did like the appearance of the model 54. My uncle had a 270 that he hunted Deer, Antelope, Elk etc. with and very seldom came home empty handed. In 1948 he crashed his small piper cub. The barrel on the 54 got bent in the crash. He offered to give it to me, I declined. I guess at 13 years of age I was not very smart. Wish I had taken it and had it barreled to a 22H.
Darn Burt,
You got me thinking of one to add to the Hornets nest. I know of one locally but not for sale at this time. Maybe I can find something that he cannot live without. Stay tuned.

Bird in hand! Has a small, slight dimple under the receiver site where someone apparently had very short lived thoughts of putting another hole in it. The owner wanted to put another hole in it for a modern scope, glad two gunsmiths declined. That blemish and the redfield jr hole is probably as good of a Litmus test for provenance as there is. Gun is dirty in the photos. My Dad is very happy with this rifle and so am I.

Many thanks to Lou for his guidance and information. I had wanted to talk to Randy Shuman about this gun, good to know there's another pre 64 jedi master in our midst.

Bert,
I sold the 61 at the Cody show but have acquired a replacement. One of these days (health and weather cooperating) I will take it to the range for an accuracy test.

I see that you have joined in the "Hornets Nest" Currently, I have (4), two standard Hornets, and two K-Hornets. You might consider adding a Model 54 Hornet to your "nest".

This was my recent range result with my Model 54 Hornet (the flier was the first cold barrel shot). 13.5 grains of Hodgdon Lil'Gun, 40-grain Hornady V-Max bullet @ 100-yds
