Bert, i will take some photos early in the new year when im home, im prity sure the gun is total origional the condition of the wood and metal is a good match, and the fit of the wood to metal is perfect. its not fancy wood but does have a nice grain.

Such woods as maple & beech are much superior to gumwood, but even if stained properly, wouldn’t easily pass for walnut, which gumwood can to the average customer, at least when new.  Not good to have customers asking, “what kind of wood is that,” even if it’s a wood as durable as walnut, & actually, maple & beech are more durable, & have the advantage of needing no grain filling, but they look different.  Gumwood didn’t rock the boat.
