I’m wondering what you guys think.

It looks to have been cleaned.

I’m still looking for a shooter but would like to have some value that I believe this one lacks. I bet the 3 digit serial generates more interest than I’m willing to participate in.

“The entire rifle is a silver with a pleasant added light patina.”  A “nice” way of saying cold blue…

I have never dealt with Austin but from what I have heard his credentials are impeccable. At the current price and considering it’s a true first year of production specimen with a great bore and a letter — it’s a giveaway. Watch what it finally sells for.

All I see is good, honest wear. If it doesn’t go for at least twice the current bid I’ll be kicking myself.

Good looking ’94 I am no good at telling from pictures if original or not, However even if it is somewhat re-done , it is still worth a lot more than $1250.00 , even in U.S. $’s. I had ser#601 shipped Nov.22/94 , ser#817 shipped Dec/94 and ser#1320, a 2nd mod. deluxe that shipped Dec. 20/94. They all sold for a lot more than $1250.00. Good luck

The rifle in question has positively been buffed & polished and reblued, albeit quite some time ago.  Compare picture #25 in the auction listing to the pictures I have attached below.

Mike,

Look again… that is not “honest wear”

Good eye… it has definitely been refinished.

Only thing that bothered me was the blotchy finish on the receiver, figured that could have been oil on a finish turning silver. I stand corrected…and educated. Thanks!

Actual refinish — I doubt it. Cold blue, it appears so.

Bob,

Look closely at the left side of the receiver frame, and then take note of the fact that the exposed bitter end of the screw installed from the inside of receiver frame has been buffed/polished completely flat, and it is now covered in some form of bluing. It should be standing proud of the side wall of the receiver, and bright silver in color.

My thoughts exactly Bert. I was being nice with the reference to having been cleaned. This rifle must have been a wreck before buffing.

Bert, isnt another give away to reblue the fact the muzzle is blued and not in the raw?

Don’t say I didn’t tell you — a remarkable price, especially for a refin.

Disappointing that Austin wasn’t more descriptive on the condition – whether intentional or not. I’ve purchased a number of Colts from him and found his descriptions to be honest if not conservative versus the actual condition. I’ve trusted him 100% on the Colts.

I agree.  “Refinished” was left completely out if the description. “Pleasant added light patina” doesn’t quite cut it in my opinion.  Buyer definitely got the short end of the stick.

I understood that, it seemed plain enough to me. The gun is the right caliber, configuration, serial number, and if your flexible on condition it will look good from 3 feet away. Guns might be worth more than some people think. One thing for certain Gunbroker sells guns for top dollar. T/R

The buyer is a “newbie” on Gunbroker, and I suspect a “newbie” at buying old Winchesters.  Just my 2-cents, but that rifle should not have sold for half of what it did.
