Bill, I am able to chamber .44 S&W American in my modified 1866 SRC as outlined in my article. But I don’t recall seeing .44 S&W brass being produced now days. I know that Starline makes .44 Russian brass for reloading, and that can be trimmed down for a centerfire version, I believe. A LOADED .44 Russian is too long (bullet is too long for sure), but that is not what was proposed. Tim

Thanks to everyone for the information on 66 cartridge. I don’t know if I will change back to rimfire or not,Winchester Bob lists the RF striker and threaded firing pen for $80+ shipping. I am pretty sure I could get a cartridge build in center fire to use the rifle.
I have a friend who shoots nothing but black power and he builds all his own bullets, I sure he could build a cartridge to 44 Henry specs.
ps: In Cartridge of the World, they said some use a cast 44-40 bullet and cutting 303 Savage brass, trimming rim to make a
44 Henry Centerfire Flat cartridge.
Thanks Again

Slug your barrel. I’m sure the .429″ 44 WCF bullets will be too small. Here is some data from McDowell’s book.
