Have just recently purchased a .50-110 bullet mould. The mould is missing the pin that fits in the bottom to make the hollow point bullet.Does any one happen to know where one of these pins could be purchased? Are there perhaps reproduction pins available?

The original was made from blued steel and was hinged. The pin would go in to the hole until it bottomed. The pin has a hole on the end where it attaches to a folded piece of steel that forms a handle and when you pulled the lever it acts like a cam and pulls the pin from the mold.

They don’t make a repo as far as I have found but you can get something that might work from here.

Just curious to know, Is your 50-110 mold a 4th or 5th type bullet mold? Either way I wouldn’t mind seeing a picture of it.

Sincerely,
Maverick

Hello Maverick.would like to post a picture, but I am afraid my computer skills are just to poor for that. 🙂

It is the 5th model. The mold is quite rough on the out side, but the bullet mold area itself ,looks pretty good.Think a good bullet could be casted with it.

The boxed Winchester mold/tool set pictured in 1873man’s reply , is from my collection. Not sure where he found the photo, but I thought I should mention that this set is in .50-95 Express caliber. The hollow point fixture in this set, is the same as those used on the 5th model .50-110 Express mold. In fact the .50-95 and .50-110 molds are exactly the same, except for the caliber marking.

Win4575,

Searched the web looking for a picture of the tool and found it on a web site. There was another picture of the end label.

You probably found it on the CAS City web site under the 1876 Winchester forum. I have posted several photos of various 1876 caliber tools and molds from my collection on that site from time to time.

Buck,

Did that 5th Type Mold come in the box with the 1894 Tool in 50-95? Or did you assemble the various pieces and put them together?

Also further up the page on the CAS City Forum you can see several 4th Type Molds? Are those Hollow point pins with the wood handles original to the Molds? Or is that something you had made for them?

Sincerely,
Maverick

The boxed set pictured above is all original to the box. It does not appear that the set was ever used. I have a Model 1891 boxed set in .50-110 Express that is also in new unused condition. Winchester molds and tools were also sold separately, but the boxes they came in were only large enough for either the tool or the mold, not both. From my observations as a collector, complete boxed sets as shown in the photo above, are the most common. I can’t find the other photo you mentioned showing some of my express molds. However, if I remember right, that photo shows only 4th model .50-95 Express molds and yes, all of the express fixtures are original to those molds. I did take measurements from one of them and made a reproduction for a 4th model .45-125 Winchester mold that was missing it’s original pin. Finding the correct brass ferrule was the hardest part.
