The extra $19,000 must be for those Ivory Tusks the gun is sitting on!

I’m sure you are being facetious. And Well yes that is exactly about sums it up.
1st off the gun wasn’t made in 1895, it was made some time in or around 1904. 2nd 1904 was the year Teddy was re-elected and unlike today’s presidents I doubt he would run off on vacation to Africa to go on safari. 3rd all of the serial numbers of Roosevelt’s guns are known, with most guns being accounted for. 4th the guns used by Teddy on his safari were special ordered with deluxe wood, cheek piece stocks fitted to Teddy’s own measurements and had special ordered sights. The gun at auction has none of this and is pretty much a plain jane Model 95 in .405 caliber. 5th if it only recently sold at auction for $6000, what has changed in the last several months to make the gun more valuable?
Sincerely,
Maverick

Value of the Teddy Roosevelt story – $0
Value of rifle – Less than $6,000
I agree that TR never saw this gun. At a minimum he would have ordered a shotgun butt. Oh, and my G-Grandfather did meet TR when he was in Mississippi on a "bear hunt". I think I’ll buy a .405 and say it was a gift from Roosevelt.
As to this rifle, it’s a nice ’95, but not worth 6 G’s in my opinion.
