This topic has been brought up before but, here is another example of a round barrel, 1/2 magazine that has the flat TD assembly with the locking tab. I haven’t figured out the trick to get a link from gunbroker to here with Windows 8 on this new computer but, if you would like to see the rifle it is GB # 407518749

Paul,

Here you go – http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=407518749

The grip cap is not original.

You are so right. I didn’t pick that up. I was just looking at that TD assembly with the locking tab on a round barrel with 1/2 Mag.

Nice looking gun, nice wood.

Yes, I was following this for awhile, searching out TD rifles with shorter than standard magtubes that had the flatlever – unscallaoped – TD lever with cam that fits into the underside of the barrel. A pile of them out there. I was noting all I was seeing online, auctions, etc, all I had come across were fairly low serial numbers, most under the 70,000 s/n range if I recall correctly. Obviously this was used on FM rifles, but seems this type was also used on early TD rifles.

Looks like a very nice gun but I question the value of the Scabbard $3000.00 😯 Might just have to go have a look at this gun as the seller is just down the road. Wink

A $3,000 scabbard?? I’d like to hear your thoughts on that as well. Nice gun, it does have nice wood. Sure, 3X, but not 4X I don’t think. I think when you get into 4 and 5X you are getting into exhibition grade wood and guns.

Keep us posted Brian if you go to look at it.

So is that a factory notch on the underside of the barrel? I’ve never heard of that?

Looks correct to me. The only thing I see "wrong" with the gun – is as Bert pointed out – is the replacement grip cap. The flat unscalloped TD lever and cam on this gun is consistent with a pile of them I have seen with early serial numbers, and this one has an early s/n as well. I should go back and find the notes I took. I compiled a huge list of them. Maybe a good survey for me to do.

Sorry guys couldn’t get down to the see the ’94 TD. I’m in the middle of a move and just couldn’t get time to try and find this guy. By the looks of what he has listed on GB, he gets some pretty nice guns. I have never seen this type of end cap either but has we have been finding out lately there are some strange Winchesters that a lot of us haven’t seen before. I expect that this gun will get some serious bidding close to the end. Wink

Beautiful gun….anyone have an opinion on whether the butt plate and forearm end cap were originally blue or case color. As usual, pictures can be deceiving !

This is the second round barrel extra-light I have seen without a front sight ramp.

Here is another one for you. There ia a member of WACA that has an octagon ELW so maybe he will chime in again.

Extra light-weight octagon barrel. This one has the dove tailed sight.

I almost missed your comment there Bert. I will have to take a look and see where I put that list, and when I get some free time, I’ll start my search again and post results down the road. Might have to wait a bit, this new born is keeping me busy on this end right now!

I’ve got a couple of X-Light oct BBL 94s ( 38-55 and 32-40) and have seen a bunch more, I have not seen an X-Light oct with a ramp front sight.

I think that the barrel flat would be about 3/16" and much too narrow for any ramp that I have seen.

I realize the talk is about ELW barrels, but did any of the octagon barrels have ramp sights? I’m trying to remember if I’ve ever seen anything other than a standard dovetail on an octagon.
