A documented conversion of a Model 1892 from a 32WCF to a 218 Bee. So someone took a rifle made around 1904, converted it almost 50 years later AND kept the paperwork. Neat stuff.
Best,
Greg
Seems kinda of fishy to me, especially that 92 marking on the barrel.

Ive got an example of a takedown front end that was manufactured in 1949 ("49" date stamp under barrel) that had what I believe is the Model 64 designation changed to "94". Will let you be the judge. Also, several years ago I had a round 94 takedown barrel that was date stamped "52". Im not sure what the latest date for takedown barrel production was, but they were making them, possibly on special order, up until the early 1950’s , leading me to believe that if you wanted it, they would make it.

I dont have a serial number to provide, it was purchased and resold as it is shown in the photos. Everything about the takedown front end was original (blue, wood, checking, etc.). My best guess is its a Model 64 barrel made into a takedown barrel to fit a 94 takedown frame. The "64" was then changed to "94". I wish I had some sort of story that came with it explaining how it came to be but I dont.

Chris,
While almost anything is possible, I very much doubt that Winchester changed (overstamped) the marking on the barrel of your Take Down.
Model 94 Take Down Rifles were discontinued at the end of the year 1937 along with the Model 94 Sporting Rifles.

Maybe your right Bert, I cant begin to wonder why anyone would make a 94 takedown barrel from a Model 64 barrel. However, that is what it appears to be. Maybe someone wanted an additional takedown barrel set for a 94?? Its obvious that the model designation has been changed. And like I said, the barrel threads, takedown ring, etc appear to be the real deal. There is plenty of room on a 64 barrel to turn it down to a takedown barrel without loosing any of the barrel stamping, aside from having to redo the proof mark on the top of the barrel. Who the heck knows?? Just one of those oddities you come across that adds to the confusion.
Also too, while the takedown version of the 94 rifle may have been discontinued, I can assure you that I had a standard, round takedown barrel for a 94 that was stamped on the underside with a "52". If I remember correctly it still had the original wax paper and shipping tube from Winchester. It came from a family friend whos family owned a local general store (established in the late 1800’s). They sold a lot of Winchester merchandise back in the day. It was something he squirreled away before they went out of business due to a fire and sold it to us when he needed a little extra money.
