Hello all,

I recently bought a Kerr sling at a gun show that looks just like the military versions from WWI, except it is narrower. I learned from some Internet research that this type of sling was used with a Winchester .22-caliber Model 60A produced in the 1930s, and that it also may have been used on a Model 57 .22 rifle in the late 1920s and 1930s.

Because I am a military collector and know next to nothing about Winchesters and commercial slings, I am wondering if the above information is correct. Also, if it is correct, I’d like to know if this sling is uncommon and has much value. The sling is a bit soiled in spots, but it is in good shape except for some very minor fraying on the edges of a couple of spots.

Thanks in advance for any replies….

From my 1933 Winchester catalog: It was standard on the 60A Target Rifle and was available as an option on the 52, 57. I suppose any other models that were ordered with sling swivels could have had the Kerr web sling strap too.

I happen to have a Model 57 from 1931 and it has a NOBUCKL strap on it with a Patent date of 7-21-14 on it. I’m guessing its not original to the rifle.

I’m not sure of the value or rarity of the Kerr strap you have.

The Kerr straps seemed to have different variations in the way that they are marked. I have a buddy who has a 60A target and his strap is marked nobuckl. I would love to find one for my 60A target!

Well maybe my Nobuckl strap is correct. It sure looks to be period and it has the original owners name on it. (I have a letter of provenance from the gentleman that bought it new in 1931 and sold it to my father about 20 years ago.) Very cool little M57.
