I met and had a long discussion with RIA on this 71 on last Tuesday and was assured that if the gun is still going to be auctioned off, it won’t be with their original write-up. They are actually thinking the consignor might not keep the gun in the auction, but I am still waiting to hear what that decision is.
So, if nothing else is posted here on the gun, I guess we all will have to wait and see what transpires on the day it is supposed to be sold, which should be Sat. morning of the May auction.
RIA knows what it is and knows the background, so it really now is up to the consignor as to what will happen.
Obviously, don’t have an answer to that. The ultimate answer will be up to the consignor and RIA. I would expect, in any case, that RIA would go back to the absentee bidders and let them know the changes that have occurred.
NOTE: I DO NOT WANT TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF RIA! I can only surmise what they would do at this point in time!
Seems like they are "letting it ride" to see what the dice turns up!

As the last follow-up on this subject Model 71 rifle, it has been removed from the auction. If you search the current RIA catalog for next weekend’s auction, you will no longer find number 1273 in the catalog electronic listing. So, as I guessed, the consignor undoubtedly decided to take it out of the auction.
