Hello All, new here, enjoying the hell out of the info on 94’s here, God Bless that guy Bert! My Dad  has an old ’94, 32-40, full octagonal bbl, looks to be original, but as soon as I get to my Parents’ again, I’ll get pics to Bert if he’ll share them with all.  I THINK it’s 1905mfg, but after looking on this site, I’m sure about nothing about that gun.  I’d like to reload for it, where do you guys find 32-40 stamped brass, or are the majority forming it from 30-30 & 38-55?  Thanks for any help.

Hi NE,

Brass is at a premium and pretty scare now and like so many other cartridges 32-40 is one that will be hard to find. I reload a lot of different cartridges but not 32-40 but one I would consider if I had a rifle using it. You can find 30-30 or 38-55 Starline offers both but there is no back order on 30-30 although the last time I looked there was a back order on 38-55. I have been reloading now for over 40 years and I have reformed a lot of different calibers from parent cases and its generally not that hard to do. But I would consider reforming cases a post graduate job as opposed to general reloading.  I recently made 50 cases of 38-56 from 45-70 and I lost 7 ruined  cases in the process. There are others here with more experience than I have reforming and reloading. For what its worth if you haven’t had any experience reloading I wouldn’t start with reforming cases. Try doing a search for some or Gunbroker or some other place or forum. I have gotten brass from people on forums before.

Good luck!

Rob

I have ordered many times from this source.  This item says it has been formed?  Everything I have ordered has been Bertram.

Send them an email.

Winchester used to do a run of 32-40 brass every year or so up until a few years ago. Who knows when they’ll do that again. There used to be a mom & pop online reloading shop that offered quite a bit of loading components for the old Winchester cartridges but I haven’t been able to find them recently. If you start with new brass you should be able to make them from 38-55 brass with a simple pass through a 32-40 FL sizing die, may need to trim. May be able to find some correct brass at a show, believe it or not I’ve seen John Wayne Commemorative ammo for a decent price now and then. Happy hunting!
