OfflineHello!
I have a question for the pre-64 Model 70 experts on this forum. I have a beautiful standard rifle chambered in 30-06 that I hunt deer and speed goats with, however, I do not want to do any mods to the stock whatsoever as the rifle is in fantastic shape and is a “fair weather” hunter. It currently has the factory sling loops affixed to the stock. I’d like to run a bipod on the rifle, and my question is if I thread the front loop out of the stock, does anybody make a standard swivel stud that has the same thread pitch as the enclosed loop version currently on the rifle?
Thanks for any help!

OfflineYears ago, I replaced my Standard swivels on my Feather weight rifle with a set of Uncle Mike’s quick detachable swivels. It has worked well for me. I have also used a bipod on the rifle for longer range shooting. On my feather weight the impact did not change when I used the bipod. This however, was not the case on some other rifles that I shot with a bipod. You might have to shorted the front swivel for a proper fitting. I keep the original swivels in a draw in my gun box.

IIRC the M70 factory front swivel/escutcheon has a different thread that the aftermarket Uncle Mike’s QD swivel stud.
This is not really a problem, but you may have to take the rifle out of the stock and replace the factory escutcheon with the round knurled backing nut that comes with the QD swivels. Good news is that you don’t have to alter the stock and the Uncle Mike’s QD swivel studs will not mark up the stock on the outside. So you can always put the originals back if desired.
Best,

When I was posting about the Model 70 I was shooting I un threaded the front mount and screwed in an eyelet. The bipod I used could clamp onto this eyelet. I would have to go back through the Post to see where I bought the eyelet. I will look for the packaging if I can find the parts.

Yup that’s the exact setup I want to run. I don’t want to do any drilling or tapping into the stock and want to use the same drilled hole that the current D loop stud uses.
