I have this 1895 src that appears to have special wood. Not necessarily high grade wood but the forearm, stock, and buttplate all have the same numbers as are stamped on the left lower tang. Was it common for 95 src to have other than standard stocks? The buttplate reminds me of a model 70 buttplate.
The butt plate you have on your Model 1895 SRC was a special order item for several different lever-action Models. It was first used on the Model 1887 Shotgun (standard item), and them on the Model 1897 Shotgun in the 1903 – 1907 timeframe. It was a special order item for the Single Shot, and the Models 1892, 1894, and 1895 though the early 1930s, when it was again adopted as a standard item on the Models 64, 65, 70, and 71.

I agree with Bert. The 1887 shotgun I have has this same butt plate. It’s much wider than the others though. While I was searching for mine I ran across a lot of the wrongs ones for me. The early 87’s had a very short lived metal one before this one. Those are really rare. They also had a smooth metal one. Fancy guns had the hard rubber ones.
