I’m new to the forum and appreciate any help I receive, thank you.
I’ve been looking at an Winchester 1894 takedown serial# 9078 and want to understand the barrel stamps.
NP .38”-55 2.12” 24GRS COR.MKI – 255GRS
Winchester 1894 Takedown 38-55
26in barrel
sling rings on both forearm and stock (looks like original)
Chris,
I suspect that the marking you mention are foreign (British) proof marks. Can you post a picture (or send a picture to me)?

I would have to do some digging, but I believe the same or similar markings have been discussed on the Forum in the past.

Bert believe it is English nitro proof .38 inch bore 55grs black r2.12 case length 24 hrs cordite mark 1 255 gr bullet . Re proofed for English market. Tom
That is what I initially thought, but the British usually mark the opposite side of the barrel, and there should be stamped markings on the bolt and on the receiver frame.
