I’ve been looking at an Winchester 1894 takedown serial# 9078 and want to understand the barrel stamps. 

NP .38”-55 2.12”  24GRS COR.MKI – 255GRS

sling rings on both forearm and stock (looks like original)

Chris,

I suspect that the marking you mention are foreign (British) proof marks.  Can you post a picture (or send a picture to me)?

I would have to do some digging, but I believe the same or similar markings have been discussed on the Forum in the past.

After seeing the markings, I believe that it is more likely that they are Belgian proof marks versus British.

That is what I initially thought, but the British usually mark the opposite side of the barrel, and there should be stamped markings on the bolt and on the receiver frame.

Not always, and sometimes depends on what Proofing house, London or birmingham , they went to.
