So long story short I bought this winchester for $900 knowing it wasn’t right. Over the years I got thinking about it the forearm on the rifle was a lot shorter than a normal carbine. So I started thinking more about it, I wanted to have it returned back to how it should be with a short barrel. I contacted turnbull restoration and they told me to post to this website, said you guys would be able to tell me what it originally was and how to go about the ATF. So basically I’m a new collector and need professional opinions.
Thanks

Sounds like you have a 92 carbine that originally was shorter than 20 inch barrel and has been rebarreled with a standard carbine barrel? If your 1892 is old enough to fall within the “letterable” range with the Cody Firearms Museum you are in luck as far as finding what configuration it left the factory in. If it is outside the letterable range there is really no way of knowing how long the barrel was when it was shipped. You can’t post pics unless you are a member however you could e-mail them to one of the 1892 authorities on here perhaps(I’m certainly not one). Not sure on American law but the ATF isn’t involved if the barrel is over a certain length.
Hello Nicholas,
If you will send me the photos of your rifle to my email I will be glad to take a look at it and help you. Please include the serial number of the rifle and images of all the stamped writing on the gun. [email protected] You might want to take a look at this also:
