I’m looing at a 1892 in 44 wcf. S/N 7586** Has the saddle ring receiver, half mag, and a 24″ barrelIt also has a shotgun butt stock with a plastic butt plate. Would either of these be original to a 1914 Winchester 1892?
Thanks,
Hello Dave,
As Bert mentioned some photos would be a HUGE help in answering your question. SRC’s NEVER had 24 inch barrels but a shotgun butt stock would bea possible special order feature. Half magazines are not uncommon on carbines. Can you post images or a link that has images of the rifle? What is the full serial number of the rifle?

Good morning,
What is the full serial number of the rifle? I would like to enter it into my survey. The serial number corresponds to 1914 but the barrel markings on the gun were not used until 1925. Model 1892 production in the SN range of your rifle is dominated by SRC’s in 44 WCF. See below from my work. Model 1892’s fitted with fluted shotgun butts are not common. I have cataloged just over 19,000 Model 1892/92’s and only 86 have fluted shotgun butts. Of those, only 22 are sporting rifles the balance are SRC’s(22) or carbines without a sling ring(38). It might be more likely that the gun was refitted with a rifle fore end and barrel some time after 1924.
