OfflineI don’t know. This short mag has a machine screw fit directly to the 20″ barrel. Could it be a barrel cut-down done by a gunsmith? Sure. But the screw and machined hole in the barrel don’t look aftermarket to me. That’s why I first considered it a carbine with a short feeder tube. But there are no markings at the end of the barrel that would indicate a magazine ring. Considering this was perhaps a relatively uncommon set-up for an 1892, I would have expected a bit more info in the factory letter. So maybe the gun has been manipulated. It is what it is. I’m really happy that my little old, 128 year-old, rifle is generating some interest.

A Note for anyone who’s interested. I finally took the rifle to the range and shot it. What a joy. Not only did it fire every time but was true at 100 yards! thanks everyone for your interest.
Sounds like fun, glad it worked out.
