I was looking at an 1886 that’s up for discussion and was curious regarding value. It’s a 19 inch barrel with a short magazine tube, flush with the fore end. No saddle ring. Front site has a screw fixing the right side in the dovetail. Octagon barrel SN 62594
Don, does this Rifle happen to be in 40-65?
Don,
Hopefully the barrel is actually 20-inchs in length, as a 19-inch length strongly indicates a cut down (shortened) barrel. You did not mention the specific cartridge/caliber that it chambered for and that will have a significant effect on the potential value.
Can you provide pictures of the rifle?

Unfortunately the barrel and the magazine tube have been shortened, drastically lowering the value it does not have much blue finish. If the bore is good the value would be as a shooter
Concur, and the barrel actually measures 19.5″. The front sight is too close to the muzzle face. The ugly extra hole in the butt stock is another serious demerit. At best, it is a $1,200 rifle.

You are spot on. I know this rifle. It is also an extra heavy barrel which makes me all kinds of sad.
