I know I have seen at least one.  Of course, I also know they made one in .50EX.  I don’t think the .45-90 was a cataloged offering in the ELW.

The catalogs only listed the 45-70, but thus far, I have encountered ELWs made in 33 WCF, 38-56 WCF, 40-82 WCF, and 45-90 WCF.

I’d sure swap that modern reproduction sight for a vintage tang sight.

Well I am busted here. This is the one I saw and was actually asking the question about. Steve why do you feel that the tang sight is a reproduction, is that not a lyman 103? I am asking as a rookie. Trying to get serial number and conformation it is in fact 45-90. Not being very cooperative out there in Hamburg.

It’s my very strong impression that it is a reproduction and not a Lyman 103.  Their ad also states it is Lyman No. 2.

The sight is not an old Lyman! The of the period sights have small headed mounting screws and the machine cuts are way different. If I was looking to buy this gun I would look under the sight before purchase! T/R

Me too. That TD ring and the mag tube look new to the rest of the gun.

Even if the letter shows it is a half-magazine takedown (and the letter likely will match the configuration), it doesn’t mean parts weren’t replaced.  However, I have a model 53 where the receiver finish and takedown ring finish look identical to this one – and I believe the rifle is original.

I like the configuration/chambering a lot, but I didn’t feel great about this particular rifle.  You’ll find something better.

I have a 33 TD with 90% blue on barrel and receiver, but the TD lug is white, flaked off. Certain years had a bad flaking problem, some turn brown and some white.

And then there’s this one that has nearly all the blue.  But as you said, could be a function of the year manufactured.

Muzzle looks like a shotgun’s. Can only imagine how difficult that was to make. Probably not much fun to shoot, either. Sure is fun to look at, tho!

Mike – I agree.  In fact, I was struck by how it looked like a smoothbore Laugh

I think it is a good thing they didn’t install a dovetail front sight.
