This carbine appears to be misrepresented as to the the “original” finish, but I am not an expert. The barrel band screw is also not oriented in the correct left to right direction through the forearm. Any comments?
The auction has several longer than standard barrel length rifles and a “pigeon” grade, engraved model 12.

Gun just doesn’t look right to me, Colsuper. Nothing solid but I suspect your gut feeling is correct.

Well looking at the forearm band screw being buggered up and on backwards, we know the gun has been disassembled.
Looks to me like an older re-blue job to me. Notice no pictures of any of the markings. You probably could see where they’ve been buffed.
Sincerely,
Maverick

IMHO – way too much money for what it was. And this business about calling Winchester, “… and they agree it was probably…”
Agreed. I seriously doubt “Winchester” told them that. There’s a small chance someone at Cody told them that but that amount of info would be pretty unusual. “R&R” and a date is probably all the ledger will show, the rest is likely speculation or fantasy. For $10K, I hope for the buyer’s sake I’m wrong.
