Hi! I’m brand new to this site after having watched it for some time.
My first post is this. Does anyone know or have access to the catalogs that listed the 1885 High Wall Safari Models? They have 28″ barrels and were only issued in .375 and .300 H&H magnums. They are specifically known as the “Safari” models.
I need to know the rate of twist on my 300 H&H version, it seems to be measuring 1-12 with a patched rod but the common twist for the 300 H&H is 1-10. The “out of production” pages on the Winchester website no longer list the specifications for these safari models other than a 28″ barrel.
Just to get to know me I collected an 1895 flat side four digit octagonal barrel 38-72 and an 1895 30-06 take down (1915 if I remember) both of which I had to sell recently due to finances.
I also sold two winchester 1894’s and my Win 52D for the same reasons. Also an 1885 (modern) .22LR low wall high grade went the way along with a model 70 in 6.5×55 I couldn’t get to shoot well (I’m working on an article about 6.5×55’s that focus on the original vs current cartridge head dimensions and the reason for headspace indication issues when there aren’t any).
All I have left is the 300 H&H 1885, a 1927 win ’92 25-20 button mag saddle ring carbine, my NECG customized model 70 classic stainless in .375 H&H and my full blown custom Turnbull 1886 in .475 Turnbull.
I keep an eye out for a very good 1957 1894 30-30 for sentimental reasons. (I see a lot of 1957 .32 specials but almost no 30-30’s, any one know why?).
Thanks all, glad to be here. I’m registered just as a guest but will upgrade when funds become available.

Just FYI, I found on the Winchester website, they have “historic PDF downloads” of catalogs from 2001-2019.
We all know they produced and sold the 1885 Safari models in .300/.375 around 2010, but not listed in any of these catalogs as far as I can see.
I’m sure someone on here can tell us if they sell “shot show specials” with out having listed them in catalogs.
I know I saw the full range of specs on these guns on the winchester discontinued product site. They still list the 1885 safari .300/.375 on that page but only list the 28″ barrel spec.
Oh well, I can’t believe they produced this 300 H&H with a 1-12 twist when all other .30 caliber guns listed a 1-10 twist!

Welcome!
I can’t answer your primary question but I can comment on your other question: Because .32 Specials are cool!

In my ongoing research survey documenting the production statistics of the Model 94, the 30-30 Win outnumbers the 32 WIN SPL by large margin. Of the (507) Model 94s that I have documented in the year 1957, (381) of them are 30-30 caliber (75%).

Kass-
32 Specials do seem to travel in packs sometimes, when you encounter some really nice ones they’ve obviously escaped from my safe or Steve’s. Just gather them up and PM for shipping instructions.
All kidding aside I happen to have a very nice 1958 32WS so there may have been years with pockets of 32 Specials. Keep your eyes open, there are some very good condition 30WCF 94’s made in that time period. One will come along in good time.
