Hello Gentlemen
I have a 1873 SRC in full nickel with a Cody letter. I am coming to you because I am not sure how to handle this rifle. It is very old and has a lot of patina, Also gunge. Is it ok for me to clean this rifle? In its current condition does it even matter? I think the rear sight might be replaced long ago. Just looking for the opinions of some trained eyes. I don’t have a online photo account but I can gladly send pictures

Chris,
You don’t want to clean nickel. If its old finish it should be dull and flaking. If can send pictures to me at the below address.

Bottom gun is a full nickel M1873 SRC I have. Nickel doesn’t wear nearly as nicely as blue does. It flakes, blisters and often looks unappealing. Many collector’s don’t pursue nickel plated guns. I like the rarity aspect of it, but even for me, the appeal is not strong. As far as cleaning, there’s not much choice but to leave it alone.
