Just joined as a guest being in the UK.

I have spent a lot of time looking for information on the rates of rifling twist for the many different calibres of the 1885.

Pretty sure I saw a schedule but can now longer find it.

Does anyone have this info?

Look forward to hearing from someone.

Hello Peter,

I have the information yo are looking for.  Please provide a list of the calibers/cartridges you are interested in, and I will put together a corresponding list of the twist rates for you for for you.  Much of the information I have is contained within the original Winchester catalogs of the period when the Model 1885 was still in production.

Hi Bert, could you perhaps please advise me of the rate of twist for a 1885 in .45-90 and one in .40-70 SS.   The rifle was originally .45-90 and was rebarreled in .40-70 at some time in its life.  Very many thanks, Kieran, Cheltenham, England.

Bert,

I believe you have a minor typo for the 38 W.C.F. as it was not introduced in 1874 but in 1879.

Sincerely,

Maverick
