I have now completed Chapter 9.2 of the Winchester Model 1200-1500 book I have been writing. This was about the WCT guns, which has many Forum posts. I thank the Members who participated.
Chapter 9.2 is about the Model 1300 National Wild Turkey Federation Guns (NWTF) Guns, (and to a lesser extent the Turkey guns, which were companions to the NWTF Guns).
To show what they were like I have uploaded a few photos of Model 1300 NWTF # L2090084. This series featured the standard Turkey Model, and had a 12 gauge, 3 inch chambered 22 inch Vent Rib Winchoke barrel with metal bead sights, the bolt was jet black, and the stock was of green laminated wood, flueted and checkered, with a corncob forend. A camoflaged sling was included. The Turkey guns had a plain receiver, with the serial number on the lower left side just above the trigger guard. For every gun sold Winchester (or the USRAC) donated to the National Wild Turkey Federation Guns. The plain Turkey guns are of interest and I would appreciate some good photos of some of the guns from different periods.
HOWEVER, from time to time the National Wild Turkey Federation commissioned a Collectors Edition gun (The National Wild Turkey Federation’s Gun of the Year) in the same series, which was only available from the NWTF – Not USRAC. It was identical to the Turkey guns except that both sides of the receiver displayed gold filled engravings designed by Rob Keck and had an exclusive numbering sequence (as well as the standard serial number for the year). The example shown is one that does not have Rob Keck’s signature, has NWTF on it but does not have the Unique Number – However I have some examples of them. Note that the Barrel Address is also gold filled.
Turkey Guns were produced from 1985 to the end of production but the Collectors Edition Guns were not offered every year. I would appreciate offers of good quality high definition photos suitable for publication of the NWTF guns, and also the Turkey guns, and any associated paperwork. If you do not wish to publically disclose these on the forum, please contact me direct by email at [email protected].
I first wrote to the NWTF about these guns in 2013 and have tried sepeatedly over the years to get more background information but without success and I would really appreciate advice on an appropriate contact person, email address or even a phone number, to try to make contact again.
