I don’t know if this thread is still active but maybe this information will be useful.

My Winchester 53 has a serial # of 966618, solid frame, 32 WCF, Barrel date stamped 26 with a VP proof and a MNS.

Hello Ken,

Yes, it is still alive a doing well. Your Model 53 rifle is the 1,027th documented specimen in the research survey. Of possible interest to you, the receiver frame was manufactured in late April or early May of the year 1928. Can you send me a clear digital picture of the barrel date marking?

Thanks,
Bert – [email protected]

Does the upper tang stamp match the enclosed image exactly?

Michael,

Yes, the upper tang is marked exactly as the one you pictured, except for the lack of blueing on mine.

S/N 3648 was already in the survey, but with no barrel date.

Thanks!

Thanks… that is now (1) of (22) documented Stainless steel barreled Model 53 rifles in the survey.  In total, the survey now has 1,106 model 53 rifles documented.

Thanks,

Bert
