Don,
It is a new entry for the survey, and it becomes 80th documented 94/95 hybrid. Yes. too bad it is refinished, but it is just 1 of 17 Type 4 hybrids.
Thanks,

Is this a new serial number for the 94/95 hybrid, 1028176 ? It is 20″ barrel with ramped front sightDana
No, it is not. That S/N has been in the survey files for quite sometime. Currently I have (80) documented in the survey. Based on the information found in the CFM archives, there were 1,303 94/95 hybrids manufactured. If that total is correct, 6.14% of them have been found and documented thus far.

Excuse my ignorance here, but what constitutes a Hybrid?I have a Model 94 flat band from I believe around 1947 that I purchase a year or so, would it be considered a hybrid and if so, would you want information for your research?
The Model 94/95 Hybrid is a Carbine that was manufactured in the year 1928 using left over .30 caliber Model 95 barrels. Because the barrel contour was not the same as a standard Model 94 carbine barrel, Winchester used the rifle style magazine ring to secure the magazine tube to the barrel versus the standard barrel band (see the pictures below). The front sights on the 94/95 Hybrid were the type used on the Model 95 versus the Model 94. There were four variants of the 94/95 Hybrid that I have labeled as Type-1, Type-2, Type-3, and Type-4. The Type-3 and Type-4 have a 21.75″ barrel length, but retained the 20-inch magazine tube.
In regards to your Model 94 Flat-band, the serial number and caliber are the primary pieces of information needed for the survey. Additional details include the hammer type (knurled or serrated), the receiver frame type (Ty-2 or Ty-3), and the magazine tube end cap type (slotted or smooth). If you know what the 2-digit barrel date is, that too would be nice to know.
