Hi everyone,
I have searched high and low for information regarding the Winchester Model 1200 Trench. I know that it was used in Vietnam and most of the weapons were destroyed when the military transitioned to another shotgun. Does anyone have any resources, books, forums they know of that I can find more information? Do we know roughly how many of these Model 1200 Trench guns still exist? Also, what would the value for an authentic example be? I’ve found various auctions from years previous. Thanks in advance!

Hello Cody,
What you are looking for are the following;
“Complete Guide to United States Military Combat Shotguns” by Bruce N. Canfield
“U.S. Winchester Trench and Riot Guns and other U.S. Combat Shotguns” by Joe Poyer
I have an extra (brand new) copy of Bruce Canfield’s excellent reference book. It is currently selling for $49.99 online. I will sell you my extra copy for $45 shipped if you would like to have it.

There’s not a lot of info on the military Model 1200. There were just over 16,000 of them made on a few different military contracts starting in 1968 through about 1970. They were used in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq. It seems the majority were trench guns but riot guns were also acquired. They are not easy to find because the majority were not released by the military. Some were given to police departments and when they didn’t want them anymore were released for sale. A few years ago the trench guns were selling for around $4,000, but with todays prices and the rarity of these guns I am sure there value has increased quite a bit.
