Hey everybody,
Been lurking for a few weeks now, searching and reading. I figured it was time to clarify my confusion, join and ask the experts to figure out exactly what I have…
Shotgun in question –
Winchester Model 12
Serial # 958***
US and flaming bomb marking on the right side of the receiver
WB stamped on the left side of the stock
Blued (not parkerized)
Flaming bomb and what looks like WP ( one over the other) on top of the barrel and in front of the sight ridge
A “W” under the receiver (in front of the loading port)
Thanks for your help

Andy,A complete serial number would be beneficial. Also, a full length photo of the gun would help.

Bert thanks for the reply. Full serial is 958310. I’ll get a centerfold layout for you once I’m home today. I do know it’s got some type of brake/compensater on the end of the barrel, no clue if it’s aftermarket or if it’s original.
I know a little backstory on how it came to live in my safe, but the guy it starts with passed away so I’m just stuck with a little lore.

It’s a WWII production Model 12. It’s in the serial number range of the military riot guns. What is the choke mark on the barrel? Is it “CYL”?
The small “W” mark usually shows up on earlier Model 12s. It’s a Winchester quality control mark. Bert can tell you more about that mark.

The S/N puts it in the April 1942 production period.
It appears to be an altered Riot Gun. The device on the end of the barrel is an aftermarket item, and it is most likely an adjustable choke.

I have this lumped in with my others for insurance reasons. Is it worth something significant whee I should have it’s own rider?
