Been on this Forum before, but since there is no activity here, I thought I would share this with members who have not seen it.
Rifle was shipped to the 1954 National Matches and purchased by the US Army, presumably for their shooting team. It is fully documented.
According to Sniper expert, the late Peter Senich, it probably saw use in Viet Nam. It was US marked until some paranoid moron ground it off.
I was given the rifle a few years ago by a Retired Army Sgt. Major. Scope is a Lyman STS of 20X, a replacement for the junk scope that was on it.

Hi Big Larry-Cool gun!!!
Below are images of some of the instructions and brochures that Evaluators Ltd. packed with the VO “Sniper” and “Special target” rifles…
Best,
Lou
Hi Lou. The instruction sheet copy I got from Mr. Senich is a little different. I think I sent you copies. I also
have a list as to what they sent to the 1954 NM’s.
BTW, my Dad won the Marine Corps East Coast Pistol matches in 1952. He won his final gold medal leg, Distinguished medal, and a sold gold 5 man Team medal. Could not be beat in 1952. Thanks, Big Larry

Be grateful the idiot didn’t follow that up by scratching his SS no. on the rcvr.
Have to say cond. of that gun doesn’t suggest much time spent in a tropical jungle.
That’s not the original stock. It came to me in a sorry looking, pressed checkered, sporting stock. Found an original type stock and restored it to original.

Hi Big Larry-
Yes, you did… Thanks!!!
BTW… Did the photo below come from you? I cannot remember where I got it. The 1955 Camp Perry USMC team… Look at all those M70 target rifles (and at least one Bull Gun) in the front row… I’d like to be “reminded” where this came from (getting senile, I guess)…
Best,
Lou

Have to say this HOO RAA! This is a picture of every Marines dream!
Not my picture. I have the one with my Dad and Col. Walter Walsh. He was hard to beat. Carried a 45 auto and a S&W RM when he was an FBI agent. His daughter was a hell of a shot too.
Col. Walsh was one of a very few Marines to triple Distinguish.
I think this photo was taken at Camp Matthews in La Jolla, CA. sometime in 1946.
Clarence, the M1 was a formidable weapon even at 1,000 yards, and had been known to keep pace with M70’s.
I have a news article where my Dad out “V”ed world champion Ken Rose at 1,000 yards with a Garand and Mr. Rose using his M70.
Also pictured, three of the best pistol shots of all time that were at the San Diego Sheriffs range. Col. Mc Millan, far right, won the 1960 Olympics.

That’s not supposed to happen!
My Dad was a hell of a rifle shot. He fired Expert with a rifle his entire 20 year career, except the war years. Politics played a role in his not shooting for his Rifle Distinguished medal.
In 1952 he qualified #1 service member in the California Olympic trials. He was not asked to go. Something to do with him wearing a hearing aid. Kind of stupid as they sent him to Korea later, hearing aid and all. He was a Master Sgt. in charge of a company of machine gunners.
I have a shadow box with all his medals. Family heirlooms if you will. Big Larry
