Hello, new here so hopefully I can get this post correct with a few photographs. A few years ago I purchased a Winchester 2pc Repeater 12 ga. box with “Experimental” stamped on it. I have had a number of Win. Leader 12 ga boxes (Lightning Bolts) with “Experimental” on them, but this was my first Repeater box. I know of one other in a collection. Does anyone else have this box? Thanks
All I know is that this is the first of the Repeater boxes. I know nothing of the Experimental over stamp. Without the over stamp this is a Rarity of 2 on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the rarest. Repeaters were not the earliest Smokeless loads. I believe these came out after the Leader. Most Leaders have a Rarity scale of 3.
Hello Chuck, Ray didn’t actively collect shot shell boxes but had some. In his younger days he was a championship trap shooter & said you need to collect shot shell boxes. I guess you could say I talked him into becoming an active shot shell box collector about 3 years ago. He mostly buys for his collection now and as you noted once in awhile will sell some duplicates. He recently allowed me to post a box on the Facebook group for collecting shotgun shell boxes. I believe its the only known one, Peters 1-pc .410 with the “Gildkote” copper plated shot call out on the box. One collector who has the most extensive collection of Peter shot shell boxes had never even seen one.
Ray pretty much has limited himself to the Tulsa Gun Show which there are two of them each year and the St. Louis Cartridge Show next April. He has been going to the Colorado show and I use to go with him when it was in Denver. I think its moved twice since then but not sure, I don’t go any longer but I know he has gone there with other buddies.
