I was going through some things yesterday and ran across this – it is a letter from Winchester on an “Important Information on 1987 Programs”. I know most of you all live in a much different state of collecting than what I have accidentally acquired over the years, mostly because I have a hard time throwing gun stuff away. I have seen where you all have some really cool old letters, and glad you saved them to share. Anyway, I have one from 1987, which is only old if you are in your 20’s or less, I most certainly am not! My first child was born in 1987, he’d not think this as being “old”; but my 13-yr old grandson would. Anyway, if anyone would ever be interested in seeing this and all the information that goes with it, I can always snap some photos.
I have tried to save this photo in every direction and cannot get it right-side up – I can’t know…

I tried to rotate the photo. It does rotate but when I try to re post it the file is too small to see. 300 KB is too small for me to work with. I don’t know how to stop the compression that makes the file smaller???
You need to change the settings in your photo editing program.
Here it is after I cleaned it up. Note that after I edited it the file size is reduced to just 215 KB

I wonder what setting(s) I change and change them to?
What specific software program are you using to edit your pictures? If you are not familiar with how to change program settings, I do not recommend trying to do it.

Thanks, I usually use Adobe Photoshop Elements. I do have other choices that I could try. But I’ve noticed that when I do edit a pic and send it to the Forum I think it is compressed some more? I’ll have to check when I send another picture.

There are settings in Adobe Photoshop that will compress pictures or not… you have to adjust/change it to suit your needs,

As an amateur photography “nut”, I would recommend FastStone Image Viewer as a Windows solution for photo image re-sizing and basic editing. It’s a FREE (for home use) download that is very easy to learn and navigate. No ads or nonsense either. It features the most straight-forward image re-sizing function that I’ve ever encountered. If anybody has questions or needs help, send me a PM.
Not all of us have the need for, nor the desire to learn, software packages as complex as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, or PS Elements. And then there’s the $$ cost……..
My 2 cents,
Tom

Thanks for the tip.I found out that this site is compressing my pictures when I post them. I looked at the file size when it was sitting on my desktop and then when I hit start upload it reduced it to one half the size.
I just got off the phone with Seth (our website software guru) and it is not the forum software that is compressing (reducing) the picture sizes. Instead, it is a function of the web browser on your computer and the physical properties imbedded in the picture itself.
I (with Seth’s help) was able to view the settings in the Simple Press software package that we use for the WACA website forums, and it is set to upload all pictures at 100% unless they exceed the 3 MB limit. If your pictures are larger than 3 MB, you need to resize them before attempting to upload them. Further, the picture rotational issue is definitely a function of the browser you are using on your PC. To fix it, you must open the picture on your device, rotate it, and then resave it before trying to upload it. To see how your browser is going to upload a picture, open your browser then use the Ctrl O function to open the picture you want to post. It will open and display it exactly how it uploads it to the WACA website.

I do rotate the picture to be upright and save. I post a lot of pictures on other sites, and they always post right-side up, this is the only site I cannot get them to post correctly. At first, they did, then all the sudden I can’t make it work. I even tried to save them sideways, and upside down and post and still cannot get them right-side up. I can’t know.

Thanks Bert. I am using my PC and I can watch it immediately change when I hit upload. Must be what you say. I will try out what you suggest. This happens every time I post a picture. When I change one I always use Save As. It just doesn’t matter. I am an old dog but sometimes I can learn new tricks.
