Picked up an old model 94 in 25-35 and am running real low on Hornady 117 gr. RN. Word on the street has it that Hornady has dropped this bullet in favor of ramping up production on more common bullets. I see where Rimrock makes a cast 85 gr. 25 caliber bullet that would work in the 25-35, but the bore is not in the greatest of shape. (this is a fun gun, not a collectable). I’m thinking the cast slug will lead up the bore pretty quickly. That’s why I use the jacketed Hornady at around 2000 f.p.s. If I would go with the cast bullet should I keep it below 1000 f.p.s.? Anyone have any 25 caliber Hornady 117 gr. round nose bullets they would be interested in letting go? If so, give me a shout. E-mail- [email protected] Thanks in advance. RRM
The Hornady website currently shows that bullet back in production. Also you may want to look at a cast bullet with a gas check like those available from Beartooth Bullets, these bullets can be driven to the velocities you mentioned with jacketed bullets without leading of your barrel.
