No, look closer, they are different. The 490 has a different magazine release. The 490 magazine catch “nub” is on the rear spine and the 52/69/56/57/75 magazine has the catch “nub” on the right side of the case.

The reason I asked was an ebay ad for a model 490 magazine with a factory box. The seller claimed that it also fit the 52,57,69 and 75. A close look at his pictures showed that the mag was definately for the 52,57 etc rifles. Hence my question. So,I bought it. It will not fit the 490 but is the correct mag for my 1947 M75 Sporter. Fit and function are perfect. Again, I appreciate your reply JWA.

Very annoying.
I had the opposite happen to me. I was given a heap of Winchester memorabilia (matches sleeves, refresher towels, product catalogue, old ink stamp)from a local gun shop. Amongst it was am empty 490 10 shot box.
Then one day I received some magazines from a deceased estate and in them were brand new 490 10 shot mags x2. I slipped one straight in the box.
Just got another mag off ebay advertised as for a 490. A careful look at the photos showed a 52 etc 5 shot mag. I’ve found other items that were misnamed on ebay and other sites. Some were bargains some not. The best one I found was an M1895 SRC sight advertised for an M1898 Krag. I grabbed that in hurry.
