About a year ago, I found a early M52 with the relatively scarce stainless steel bbl. The rifle had been sporterized, and had a Lyman 48 added. I found a donor rifle and was going to screw the bbl. off and put it on the new receiver which was 200 numbers off. Well, good luck with that. I could not find anyone willing to screw the bbl. off because of the Japanned finish, which by the way, is almost totally intact. SO, I sort of restored the rifle back to original using the receiver that came with the original rifle. I have decided to live with the two plugged holes and use the original #7001 from 1926. The bbl. date is also 1926, so chances are, the rifle was originally ordered with the SS bbl. a fact that we will never know. Anyway, it looks real good. All I did was to change the stocks and put a 82-A rear sight on it. It still sports the Winchester M67-A globe front sight. It is what it is, but looks a lot better than it did. Big Larry
