Unfortunately, the CFM records office only has the WW II period PR records for the Model 63. From them, s/n 57994 was the last serial number recorded (on December 26, 1945). Pauline Muerrle may have the post-WW II records.
It most definitely is a very gorgeous Model 63 Special!!

Nice score, Joel. I’ve never seen wood like that on a 63, you’re lucky you saw it before I did. I’m a sucker for a pretty piece of wood.

Thanks Bert and cranky!Bert, I figured you’d come along to correct me in calling it a “deluxe”. ?
I have Pauline’s contact info, I’ll reach out to her and report her response.
You put it quotation marks… and I gave you a pass on it because you did.
I suspect that Winchester had it marked “Special” on the factory box that it came in.

Beautiful eye candy! There’s not any of my Winchesters that I wear gloves when I handle them. I would on that one
Steve,
I have white gloves in one safe for 1 gun only, but this one isn’t it.
This one will be handled regularly and will be taken for a range day once in a while. MAYBE even hunted once or twice if a cherry of a day mixed with easy squirrel pickings presents itself. But, it will be babied and wiped down after each handling.
I have actual anxiety about failing to preserve the condition of some of my nicer guns – so they all probably get more care than necessary.
