I agree with Clarence, not sure they were catalogued as carbines, but certainly called by that name by collectors. Only offered for the first few years and can sometimes bring twice the money as a standard 23″‘. They are pre-war so they should all have the tang drilled for a peep sight.
I will say, as scarce as they should be, I’ve probably handled a half dozen of them in my limited travels in the last few years. I have two different friends that have one, and dealer friend in SD that currently has one available, if I recall from the last show. They are out there if a guy wants to pay the extra dollars for them.

I had one with a factory receiver sight, posted about it awhile back. I didn’t get what I thought it was worth but I bought it right.
