New here.

I have a Winchester Model 62 that was manufactured in 1934.  Serial #12380  My father gave it to me when I was 10 years old.

It is tapped (apparently for a silencer?)  Someone suggested to me that Winchester may have issued some factory tapped.

Is this true?  If so, how rare would this be?

Appreciate any info you may have.

While it is remotely possible that your July 1933 production Model 62 rifle was factory threaded for a Maxim Silencer, the odds are against it.  When the NFA (National Firearms Act) of 1934 was enacted in June of 1934, Winchester had already ceased offering that special order optional feature.

Are the threads on the muzzle of the barrel interrupted?  Does it have a knurled protective cap?

Here are some photos that may help.  Also, how did you pinpoint the month/year of production of this particular gun?

Well… I cannot seem to load pictures.  What is the trick to doing so?

The Polishing Room records still exist for the Model 62.  Ned Schwing published the PR information in his reference books covering the Winchester Slide-action .22 caliber rifles.  I created the table below using the PR records and Ned’s published information.

Bert, just for clarification on the serial numbers on your table, do the numbers represent the beginning number of that particular month or are those serials known individual numbers from specific days? I presume the former. My number 1643 is between 30-Mar. & 29-Apr.?

Very best,

Darrin

Very best,

The PR records show the last serial number applied on the specified date.  S/N 1643 would have been applied sometime in mid April 1932.
