I agree on both points NP, and I'm pretty much on that same mission. I have yet to see a nice TT model in person anywhere or at any show. I do have an original 1902 already that's quite a bit nicer than this one!

They've since updated the description since my second message to them, not sure why they are trying to leave the words "thumb trigger" in it at all at this point... just checking to make sure I didn't miss something in all the 22lr and single shot books!

Two points I'd like to add here.

1. In the past, I've pointed out some 'erroneous' and even 'misleading' wording on Auction listings which I knew to be incorrect. When the lister chooses to push back, and not correct the obvious mistakes, that is a red flag. I'll avoid all their listings in the future and view them as most certainly unscrupulous.

2. In my attempt to collect 'everything 22 rimfire ever manufactured by Winchester', the true Thumb trigger has proven elusive. This, however, appears to be a decent example of a model 1902. If you're so inclined and everything else about it looks OK, they are not easy to find in original condition.

That's exactly what I've seen...and ONLY what I've ever seen (though rarely in person). Never seen a model 1902 or other similar model actuated with the thumb mechanism like this seller claims to have...wondering if other thumb trigger models exist with different barrel or model designations.

All, I found the above listing and noticed they called it a thumb trigger model but the barrel is not marked as such, instead is a 1902. They confirmed through a direct message it's a "thumb trigger, model 1902 style."

It sounds like you most likely have an 1890 or an early 1906 with a replacement 62A barrel, or the front half of a 62A on the rear tang of a 1890 or early 1906. The serial numbers will tell us everything.

Either way it is a "Frankenchester" but should operate and shoot just fine as long as the lifter is for a S, L and LR to match the barrel marking.

I got a nice 62a from my brother in law. The numbers don't match. But the interesting thing is that the locking lugs don't notch into the sides of the receiver. I've looked at around 100 photos online and every gun has notches in the top front of the receiver, mine is flat. Does anyone know what I have?

Instinct is important but timing is everything. The rifles (at least those we're interested in) don't change; their owners do.

In the case at bar, progressively younger owners are less and less impressed by the rarity of a Winchester 61 WMR.

The trick is to outlive those owners who think like we do. It is getting harder....
