I have a model 69a that I had since i was 16 the bolt literally fell apart on the thing and Ive tried getting it back togethor but no luck. the big problem is the bolt handle wont fit in the bolt anymore even with peermatex. I have called around to different dealers but no one seems to have a bolt for it. Is there any other bolt I can get that will fit it? I just want ifd for old times sake, I got it when I was 16 and Im 71 now so its been in my life for a long time and I dont want to pay a fortune either

It sounds like a pretty easy fix for a gunsmith able to braze or solder the handle to the bolt, if that’s the only issue.

Hi Rick,
The complete 69A bolt only works in the 69A however the bolt handle and sleeve for the 69A is the same as the Model 72/72A and the Model 47.
If you feel comfortable in disassembling the bolt, the handle and sleeve can easily be replaced. For a reproduction 69A bolt handle which looks almost identical to the original you can contact: Wendell @ http://www.outbackgunparts.com/
If you prefer a complete original bolt they can be found on eBay for $125-$200 on a weekly basis.
Personally, I would not braze the bolt handle back on for several reasons, first, it never looks quite right afterwards as there is usually some brass still showing but most importantly, that little block that the bolt handle screws into is the interface with the receiver lug upon which the bolt headspaces. Get it too hot and change it’s hardness or dimension and you might end up with incorrect headspace or accelerated wear on the soft receiver lug. See Seewin’s suggestion below for a good alternative.

I would be hesitant about silver soldering as well. Most silver bearing alloys have a melting temp around 1150-1250F. This will definitely have a softening effect on a piece of low carbon steel that has been case hardened. I would recommend finding a good TIG welder and having put a couple of very small “tacks” at the interface. If done correctly, it will have little if any effect on hardness, and be fairly discreet as well.
