Found a grooved receiver model 61 22 LR
period correct leupold scope. Approx 85-90% metal and 75-80 on the wood. Gentleman wants $875
Appears to be original groove but is there a serial number range for the grooved?
thought about offering him my 52b in 90% for it
thanks

Sounds like a fair deal for the rifle by itself, but throw in the scope and I’d say you’ve done well. The grooved receivers started in 1954, around 225,000 or later so hopefully yours is later than that.
Thank You for the info. Not mine yet.
Jeff
P.S. I believe the chamber is S L LR
the gentleman has a 52 sporter and a 75 sporter wish I had a extra $6 grand to spend

Jeff,
I have looked at more than 7400 Model 61 rifle in my survey of these rifles. The grooved receiver top actually came into production right around 215100 during the early part of 1954. The rifles produced at this time are a huge batch of standard .22 Short, Long, & Long Rifle chambered guns. What is the SN of the gun you are looking at?

I didn’t trade or buy it yet. I don’t have a exact serial number but it is in the 21xxxx range. I think 215 or 216. I am thinking about it still
