I recently posted this on a Facebook Forum without much luck. Here’s my story.
I inherited my Grandfather’s model 69. He wasn’t the kind of guy to tinker with guns and changing parts and I believe most of the gun to be original, or so I think. It has some unusual characteristics for a model 69.
First of all, I believe it to be a 1935, 36, or 37, which makes it a model 69 (not 69A), as stamped on the barrel. It’s a twist safety and you have to push the bolt with some force to engage the firing pin.
Here’s the weird things…. it has a checkered barrel with what appears to be factory installed super grade sling swivels. From the inside of the stock, it appears professionally installed and there from the factory. The swivel mounts are recessed in the stock.
It also has two sets of holes on top of the barrel. Was this for mounting a scope? Is it factory? and can they be removed? I would like to install a vintage Weaver scope on it, such as a G6.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ll post pictures once I figure out how….
