She was shooting great with Federal Auto Match bulk and says if I print some smaller apertures she’ll do even better!
Not necessarily so–manuals on use of ap sights recommend that a generous ring of “white” be seen around bull, though of course there can be too much as there can be too little. But try it both ways & report the diff, if any.
I have Merit adjustable ap disks on several rifles, & for my (poor) eyes, the largest is always best. But possibly those with superior eyesight do best with the smaller aps.
I designed apertures and printed them, I’ll make a series of progressively smaller disks for her to try. They’re based on Lyman 17A. I have the globe sight design pretty well finalized so it will all get printed at the same time. Our eyesight is diminishing too so whatever she says works for her I’m on board.
Considering this is only the third or fourth time shooting the rifle and any sort of peep sights she’s doing great. I told her, if she gets much better…..she might have to start going to the range by herself!!
I too have a very nice M57, but I have never shot it. I have many 22 rifles. My best shooter is a M52. I have had a couple of those that shot dime size groups at 100 yards. Benched, with Eley ammo, and a 20X scope. Your Kim may be a natural. Keep practicing and those group sizes will shrink. Big Larry Shot with a Springfield 22 @ 50 yards

Larry, thank you for the kind words – you should have seen her face when she read where you think she might be a natural! That is an impressive target. One day I want a M52 but hard to shake loose the coin for one of those! You should take your M57 out and shoot it, they are sweet little rifles.

Actually, current values of 57s are pretty close to pre-C 52s, because, if you search for both on GB or GI, you’ll find at least 10 (probably 20) pre-Cs for every 57. I’d like to have one of the latter, except for my extreme aversion to all cock-on-closing actions, including Slow-Lock 52s.

I’ve noticed the M57 prices are pretty high. I didn’t pay nearly as much for this as 52’s go for, any era. I would love to have a 52-C but they’re in demand. And for just hobby shooting the price is hard to justify. I am not a collector I just want rifles to shoot so I can probably find a deal on a shooter that collectors would turn their nose up at!
I have considered letting go of my Marlin 1894FG 41 mag lever action and buying a true match grade 22. Once the prices of these went crazy after production stopped mine just sits, probably 20-30 shots fired through it.

Shawn, I was referring to PRE-Cs–Slowlocks, Speedlocks, & As (though they’re quite scare), & Bs, which are the most numerous of the bunch. Cs command more because of their improved triggers, but I’ve never had, nor want, one.
If you’re not shooting your Marlin, I’d say strike while the iron is hot, as prices can go down as well as up.

Can you expand on this? These and D’s seem to be the Holy Grails, you’re the first person I’ve ever heard say they don’t want one!
Sure–much as I’d like to have a 52 with the C trigger, I just have no interest in the post-war models, & dislike the ponderous (in my opinion) Marksman stocks on the Cs. Furthermore, I’m hopelessly queer for barrel bands (along with finger-groove forearms), never offered on Cs. I once went into therapy for this terrible prejudice, but the shrink pronounced me uncurable. On top of my prejudice, the pre-Cs are cheaper!
