I recently came across a Winchester Model 1890 chambered in .22 WRF. The serial number is 8524xx, just about 2300 or so from the end of production. Its my understanding that they stopped producing the 1890 in about 1933 and serial number 846022, so that would make this rifle a “parts clean-up” gun. When I look up the serial number online it comes back as a 1940 production/assembled. From one of Berts previous post I see some were actually made up until 1949. This would make this gun one of about 9000 “assembled” between 1933 and 1949.

So my questions are:
Â
When would this rifle have actually been made/assembled?
Â
Does having a fairly late serial number (End of production) increase its collectability and/or value?
Â
Thanks guys.
What is the complete serial number on the rifle in question? The answer will tell me precisely when it was manufactured.
Regular production of the Model 90 & 06 ended on June 6th, 1932 (at serial number 846022). Parts clean-up production began 8-months later on February 6th 1933. Winchester eventually assembled 8,725 parts clean-up rifles in the February 1933 – November 1949 time period.
I just very recently submitted an article discussing this exact topic (to be published in a future issue of the Winchester Collector magazine).
I am not of the opinion that the collectability or value is overtly influenced by the fact that it is a late production rifle.
