Greetings from northwest New Mexico! New guest member and very grateful for the “experts” on this forum. I recently acquired an octagonal 24″ blued barrel (new in the shipping tube postmarked 1979) that is stamped “Numrich Arms WIN ’90 22LR West Hurley NY”. I originally thought this was a replacement barrel for a Model 1890 but am not sure. Can someone help me out with what I have? Thanks in advance! Mark
Hello Mark & welcome to the WACA website.
Yes, it is a replacement barrel for a Model 1890 (90) rifle. That stated, if the rifle is currently made for one of the other .22 rim fire cartridges (e.g. Short, Long, or WRF), the cartridge carrier must also be swapped with the barrel.

It is a replacement barrel, but not a Winchester made replacement barrel. If like the ones I have seen it is not tapered as were original Winchester model 1890 octagon barrels. Should measure 3/4 inch wide for the full 24 in. length, rather than tapering down to 5/8 in. at the muzzle. The one I had was a decent shooting barrel but made for a heavier less balanced rifle.
