Early M61 22 Magnum. # 301931 from 1960. I have a S&W M48 from 1959, 1960, and 1961. Period ammo is hard to find. Does anyone know when they started the Child Warnings?   Big Larry

Nice! Let me know if you have a burning desire to sell it someday, Larry. I don’t have one I can shoot, safe queens in this model are frustrating.

Already made that pitch (different gun)–no sale.

Yeah, most M61 22 Magnums you see are too minty to shoot and too expensive to buy. I have been wanting one for quite a while, but gathering up near $2500 for a nice one was out of the question. Always watching Guns Intl,(I hate auctions), I saw this one for $1895. A good price at that. I called and we settled on $1,600 OTD shipped UPS. It has a bit of carry wear by the serial number, but very minor. No wear anywhere else except where the slide marks usually are. All in all, its way better than 95%. I will scope it, test it at 100 yards, clean it up and put it away. No plans to sell it or any of my guns. This is #185. Have plenty of shooters.

BTW, I always though the child warning was 1961, so thanks to Bill for getting me straight on that.    Big Larry

1961 or 1962, close enough.

I think the legislation was proposed in ’61 and became law in ’62 or something like that.

Glad to hear you got another nice one Big Larry.

It is interesting to note that a cartridge for the 1960 M61 was chambered for the Smith and Wesson in 1959. May have been a couple others before Winchester. In any event, pre warning 22 Mags. are hard to find. I have 2 Remingtons and 1 Winchester pre warning boxes in my ammo collection. Thanks Jolly.   Big LarrySmileSmile

Yeah, that is interesting that those pre warning .22 Mag’s would be in the hard to find category.

I looked in my stash.  Nope, none there.

From now on, I’ll be looking.

Thanks BL Cool
